Can Tableau connect to Google Analytics 4?
This article describes how to connect Tableau to Google Analytics (GA) and set up the data source. Note:Google Analytics 4 property isn't supported.
Google Analytics 4 is our next-generation measurement solution, and it's replacing Universal Analytics. On July 1, 2023, standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits.
With Tableau, any user can visually explore that data in real-time. Tableau captures the entire spectrum by connecting natively to Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Google BigQuery, and Cloud SQL to analyze billions of rows in seconds without writing a single line of code.
Instead of being based on sessions and pageviews like in Universal Analytics, the GA4 measurement model is based exclusively on events. Since the data is collected and processed differently, some once-familiar metrics are now gone. Chief among those is average session duration and bounce rate.
Google Analytics 4 has better real-time reporting than Universal Analytics. You can drill down in the real-time reports to understand more about what users are doing on your website (or in your app), and you can even see what individual users are doing.
Google first released GA4 in October 2020, and in the announcement post, Google cited changes in user behavior and privacy standards as major reasons for the switch. If you want to keep collecting data in Google Analytics after the deadline of July 1, 2023, you'll need to transition to GA4.
Universal Analytics tracks screenviews in separate mobile-specific properties, whereas GA4 combines both web and app data in the same property. If you are tracking both web and app data in your GA4 property, be sure to take the additional app traffic into consideration when comparing pageview metrics between the two.
If you haven't already heard (and you definitely should have), Google will be sunsetting their Universal Analytics (UA) platform by the end of June 2023 while 360 properties are to be sunset by the end of June 2024. Ultimately, all users, are required to make the shift to the new Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
Google announced that Universal Analytics will officially retire and stop processing new hits on July 1, 2023. Marketing teams have until that point to find analytics alternatives for website analytics.

Which forecasting method is used in Tableau?
Forecasting in Tableau uses a technique known as exponential smoothing. Forecast algorithms try to find a regular pattern in measures that can be continued into the future.
However, Tableau still has several limitations: Tableau focuses primarily on visualization and cannot work with uncleaned data. Hit limits in Google Analytics 4
In the case of Universal Analytics (standard), there is a hit limit of 10 million per month per account. However, Google Analytics 4 is a free tool and has no hit limits.
GA4 allows creating complex conversions. GA4 users' engagement tracking is much more aligned with contemporary browsing behaviour. GA4 makes cross-domain tracking setup much easier. GA4 provides access to far more custom dimensions and custom metrics.
In GA4, you no longer have to set up goals based on a limited set of conversion criteria. Instead, GA4 automatically marks 4 collected mobile app events as conversions. In addition, you can mark up to 30 more (50 for Google Analytics 360) app or web events as conversions.

What can you do with Google Analytics 4?
Google Analytics 4 is an analytics service that enables you to measure traffic and engagement across your websites and apps. This documentation provides implementation instructions and reference materials geared towards a developer audience.
- Open the report you'd like to export. Analytics exports the report as it is currently displayed on your screen, so make sure that you've applied your desired date range and report settings.
- Click Export (across from the report title).
- Select one of the export formats: CSV. TSV. TSV for Excel. Excel (XLSX)
- Create a new GA4 property.
- Create a data stream.
- Copy the Measurement ID.
- Create a Google Analytics 4 Configuration tag.
- Paste the Measurement ID and set the tag to fire on All Pages.
- Preview/test the new tag.
- Publish the changes in Google Tag Manager.
What can be confusing is that in Universal Analytics (and all previous version of GA) an event has a category, action and label and is its own hit type. In GA4 there is no category, action, or label. Every hit is an event and events can (but do not have to) contain parameters.
